Permitted Development
The Government has announced the introduction of a permanent permitted development right for change of use as from May 2016.
The new right applies to change of use from class B1(a) (offices) to class C3 (dwelling houses).
This replaces the existing temporary right which applied until 30th May 2016. It has been confirmed that:-
- Those who already have prior approval or who secure approval with have 3 years to complete the change of use;
- The rights will allow the demolition of office buildings and new building for residential use, subject to certain limitations;
- The new rights will enable the change of use of light industrial buildings and launderettes to residential use, subject to the local planning authority’s prior approval.
